I'm looking for regular dress belts in black and brown. I've read good and not so good things about AE belts.

They are more expensive than I'd have liked but if they last longer than the mall brands despite their cheapness, I'd be willing to fork up the dough.

Can anybody comment on their quality? Anybody have any other recommendations in similar price range?

    Thanks

I think they're alright. On thesheomart.com you can find Alden belts and I think AE belts, perhaps at a better price.

I have a bunch and I like them. I think I got a few for about 1/3 off from the Nordstrom sale.

The only thing I like about them is that if you wear their shoes, you can get a color matched belt.

Don't worry about matching perfectly. This comes off as too OCD.

thanks for the help. another few questions:

    1) either way, alden and ae are both better than mall brands (ck, perry ellis, etc...)?

    2) do you size up in belt size from waist size? ie- waist size 30, belt size 32?

I have several AE belts and am happy with all of them. They are very good quality. You can also apply leather lotion conditioner on them periodically to maintain the leather. Have many belts in your rotation just as you would, shoes. Belts need rest too after wearing. Sizing for AE belts, in my experience, would be 2" more than your pants waist size. Example- You wear 36" waist pants, an AE belt should be 38" or 38-40. That 2" beyond your pants waist size will make the belt go comfortably through the first belt hoop on your pants.

And if the stores don't have your size, buy a bigger size (say 38 if you are a 34) and have your cobbler shorten it for you.
