Advice Sought on Suit for High School Grad

My grandson will be graduating from high school this spring and will be off to university in the fall. He needs a suit, and his mom will be taking him around to the clothing stores this weekend to check out alternatives. This will probably be his only suit for several years. I'd like to provide good advice in choosing the most versatile suit for someone his age. What do you all think? My first thought was a navy suit.
