Advice on Watches (Re: Omega)

Sirs

I have for the past couple of years struggled with the watch(es) I have been wearing.

I alwats felt a GENTLEMAN should have 2 watches - weekend watch and business/weekday watcherh - the former should be a leather strap and the latter a non-leather strap (silver or gold).

As such during my 20s i got away with wearing a pair of (rather large and chunky footballers) Guess watches. I liked them at the time and one was a present.

During my early 30s i wore a couple of Rotary - a gold peice and gold peice with black leather strap.

Recently, now in my mid-30s i have felt Rotary a little too undistinguished a brand to carry.

After much looking around and budgetary matters also being a factor - i purchased a 1987 gold plated - rather under-stated - Omega watch. I felt 1987 was a year when I as a kid enjoyed for many reasons its a fond year.
Also, the peice is Omega - a brand i rather like.

I plan to wear just that one watch now - is it in line with the general conventional way a gent should tackle all matters re: watches.
The peice I purchased is almost what could be termed 'vintage' and I rather like it for its light simplicity and yet cache of the Omega name.

Your thoughts would be most welcome.

A gold bracelet doesn't strike me as a weekday/business watch at all. Unless your business is running a casino or marketing various sins.

One watch is fine for the moment. A leather strap gold cased watch works fine for all occasions. Get another watch when you actually see one that you love and want to own, not because you think a gentleman should have two watches.

You can also get a couple more straps and switch them around for variety - it's almost like getting a new watch, but much cheaper. Learn how to use a strap removal tool so that you don't make a mess and scratch the lugs every time.

Thanks for the reply and the steer re: strap.

I do REALLY like the watch I have purchased - and based on what you have said I can imagine alternating the strap - perhaps with a nice leather strap.

I would need to be careful with the changing of the strap - as I have not done it before and on a precious peice (it costs me a fair bit) I would not want to damage it.
Also, it is an OMEGA and I would need to but a strap that has the Omega logo on the buckle.

You can change the strap to a non-Omega one, and put the bucle on it. There are push-pins that attach the buckle to the strap and you can remove it.

I still need to buy the buckle though. Had a quick look on ebay and there are some. Will not rush into it and see what best price i can purchase the right buckle/strap for.

Oh I see, yes you need a buckle. Make sure you get the right size by the way. There's a guy on Timezone's sales corner who sells a lot of Omega accessories, including buckles. I also think that Otto & Frei sell Omega parts, including buckles.

Where are Timezone based - can you provide a link. Had a quick look at O&F - i am based in London, so popping down is not an option.

This strikes me as backward.

Regardless, congrats on the Omega. Strap changing is easy once you get the hang of it. Practice on a beater.

I always felt leather straps had a certain CASUALNESS which the FORMAL work wear needed.

In any case, thanks, am super pleased, been meaning get an Omega for ages.

Is not a NEW peice - which are thousand of £s - but its a nice little classic piece, which I a very happy with. Who knows in a few years, i might treat myself to new peice too!!!

Still thinking about the alternating with the straps - as I thinks in its current state - its quite pure, so may just wear it as it is.
