Hey Guys,

you guys have an recommendatinos on selling this kind of stuff on Ebay? My girl wants to sell her LV and Coach bags but I don't know how I can differentiate his from the thousand of fakes out there? It would be one thing if she had the reciepts but of course she doesn't. Any advice or recommendations from the people who have done it?

The basic rule is LOTS of clear, close-up and detailed pictures and CLEARLY worded, direct verbal descriptions. For LV, be sure and photograph the inside tag with font (often fakes incorrectly produce the "O" in Louis Vuitton and don't stamp it correctly) and the bag from all angles, of the inside, and of the zippers. Photograph or list the date code. Also take pictures of the dust bag. This follows for most designer brands, but always photograph any authenticity cards (LV doesn't have these cards) or any accompanying information.

Next, offer a returns policy that says if the bag is found to be inauthentic you'll refund. You don't have to offer a return for any nitpicky thing if you don't want, but authenticity is a must.

Finally, be sure and give clear explanations of WHERE the bags came from. If you got it as a gift, say so. If you bought it at the XXX boutique, say so. Be careful, though, because if you got it at a yard-sale but SAY you bought it at the Chicago LV boutique, if it turns out to be fake you get caught in a messy situation. There are things called "super fakes" which are almost indistinguishable unless you start counting stitches or weighing zipper pulls. Unless you or your girlfriend are LV experts or LVMH employees (this goes for other brands as well, from Gucci to Coach to Prada), you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

So, be honest and say where the bags came from. You won't sell the bag for more money if you lie about where you got the bag; you'll only be opening yourself up to issues if the bag turns out to be wrong.

These are just a few hints, but also keep in mind that if you've been on ebay for less than a year or have less than 100 feedback, it makes many buyers wary because of the fly-by-night sellers who breeze around and make up many accounts. But, again, communication is always a key.
