Advice on how to make pants right?

All,

I purchased a suit which originally came with pleated trousers a while ago. The salesman told me that they could tailor it to a flat front style, which they did. However, I recently noticed that the rise is too much, as you'd expect from pleated pants that sit higher, so it looks very weird when I wear it on the waist.

Can anyone recommend me a way to rectify this? Is it possible to make this conversion, or was I deluded into thinking it could be done? I'd like to save my suit and the two trousers that came with it.

TIA

Rise is independent of the pleats, but he means that the pants were constructed with a higher rise because pleated pants should be worn higher near the natural waist to avoid splaying of the pleats. Some manufacturers I believe make with a lower rise because the expectation is that you will wear them an inch lower. Perhaps maybe due to the trendier suits going towards flat fronts and lower rises.

You can take the crotch if it is too baggy there, but this cannot change the rise. The only way to change the rise from my understanding is to remove the waistband and remove some fabric from the pants at the top, then reset the waistband. It might have been cheaper to do this in one single operation with the removal of the pleats because no doubt removing the pleats requires removal of the waistband to perform the pants surgery. You can probably shorten the rise as much as an inch, but it will move the side pockets and rear pockets upwards in comparison to the waistband.

Patience!

People are not at your beck and call and less than two hours is hardly long.

Try a decent tailor to see what can be done. Very much a question of trying to find the right skills and hoping that the botched job can be undone. Take care but removing the waist band and altering the rise could be both expensive and not terribly satisfactory. I would not be surprised if most said that the rise cannot readily be altered especially with a a zip fly.
