Advice on formal evening outerwear.

This is kind of niche, and I've been at a bit of a loss on where to start, so hopefully someone here can get me off in the right direction.

I have more than a few black and white tie events coming up, some of which will likely be in less than ideal weather, almost certainly being cold. However, my only real overcoat is an informal, single breasted notched lapel affair than does not seem right wearing over a nice dinner jacket let alone tails. Would additionally like something a bit more formal, ideally something with either velvet or silk accents to let it stand out as not just another piece of outerwear.

Any suggestions on what I should look for and what is available. Looking to go secondhand/vintage as budget is certainly not in the mtm/bespoke area.

You’re going to take it off when you get inside so just wear what you have. That’s my 2 cents.
