In preparation for the upcoming Edward Green trunk show at Sky Valet, I'm deciding which color to order my first pair of MTO shoes. It will most likely be the Newbury without a medallion on the toe on the 82 last. I've narrowed it down to four choices: Dark Oak, Burnt Pine, Chesnut, or Burgundy; all antiqued. I'm looking for a color that's dark enough to wear in the evening with a dark suit but also light enough to wear with lighter colored suits and trousers during the day. Is there a color amongst these that could do this? Maybe the burnt pine? Pictures are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Burnt pine with extra antiquing. That's the color of the Holcots I ordered from the previous Sky Valet trunk show. I have no digital camera, but will likely wear them to the trunk show on Saturday.

While I prefer chestnut generally, I think the burnt pine might better suit your needs. I think the dark oak might also work.

I was thinking the same thing. Heavy antiquing should give me the darkness for more formal/evening wear while the light color serves the other function. Hope to see you at the trunk show. Thanks!

Another vote for burnt pine. I ordered a pair of Southwolds in burnt pine with heavy antiquing. I posted pics a few weeks ago. Do a search for Southwold.

I would also go with burnt pine.

An extremely helpful sysdoc picture attached.

I think burnt pine is the most attractive color, and it can go with absolutely anything. If it helps, my first pair of EG will be Ladbrokes in burnt pine with extra antiquing.

sammy: I won't re-iterate my suggestion about the formality and flexibility of dark oak which I have posted on another forum, but I would add that burgundy -- one of your original options -- is really worth considering. I have a pair of the new Molton four eyelet derbys in antique burgundy and the colour and finish are exceptional.

I wholeheartedly support medwards suggestion. I recently had a pair of the Newbury made up in antique burgundy and they are exquisitie.

I agree, the antique burgundy is gorgeous and a perhaps the most versatile colour. But if you are going for the browns, dark oak and an extra burnished burnt pine are both excellent choices. The former would be more suitable than the later for the evening, and still not be inappropriate with a mid-gray suit in the day.

Medwards,
I will seriously consider burgundy; which is one of my favorite shoe colors. Is "ox blood" and burgundy the same color?

Aportnoy,
Would you mind posting a picture of your Newburys? Thank you.

Ask and you shall receive. Here's a comparison of my three Newbury in dark oak on the 808 last, mink suede w/ medallion on the 606 last and the dark burgundy with extended welt and double sole on the 888 last. Please be advised that it's far darker in person and that the camera flash has lightened it significantly.
