Advice on Basic Charcoal Suit

Hey all,

In preparation for interviews I am looking to buy a charcoal suit. The ideal suit would be slim (but not so tight that the jacket puckers and I have a crotch bulge), and made with a fine wool (I am in the South). I am not too concerned with whether it is 2-3 buttoned or has a center or side vents.

I am always looking for a bargain, but am willing to spend up to $800ish.

Please let me know if I should proide more information.

Thanks!

For slimmer suits Ralph Lauren Black Label and Brook Brothers Fitzgerald models seem to be the preferred brands around here (and with me). I own both, and would say that the RLBL is a better suit, but more expensive. On sale, you should be able to find both under $800.

You can also look at suits from these makers:

Raffaele Caruso (the manufacturer of RLBL)
Prada
Dolce and Gabbana
DKNY
Armani

Look for discounts, of course, as many of these brands are expensive.

I just tried a Versace and it makes a very slim suits. Slim but not over Thom Borwn over the top skinny. I should probably say its a very athletic cut. I would even venture to say its an even tighter fit then Zegna. I think Zegna makes them but double check that fact before relying on it. Incidentally, I only see the Versace in grey/chracoal. Nordstrom rack has em generally/

What tie should I get for a conservative look with a charcoal suit + white dress shirt?

Cap.

For a conservative suit for interviews, i would stick to RL polo.

For the reasons that they're classically proportioned, but a slimmer cut, not as slim as black label.

the shoulders are natural looking, with no roping.

Lapels are moderately sized (not skinny, and definetly not too big).

The cut will last you a long time, my absolute favorite cut is RL polo, i'm working on switching the majority of my wardobe over.

For a tie i would go for a burgundy based rep stripe, pindot, or satin.

Try the ehaberdasher 'store' brand - I've been very pleased with mine.

I've never been able to find a charcoal suit that
1) I like
2) I will pay for
3) that fits.

I'm sure one day the stars will align and I'll land all three. Or else I might have to bite the bullet and pay full retail

Nate, I also have a pair of those AS wholecuts that you're advertising for sale. Are they yours or are you flipping them?
