Dear All,

I am a newbie to the forum and would be very gratetful for some advice please on the material I should be specifying for a bespoke suit.

I am looking for a single breasted two button suit that would be used perhaps 2-3 times a year in the summer and I am not looking for a long lasting endurance type material. I would suggest it is only ever dry cleaned say once as im very careful.

I want a suit that looks visually stunning and hangs well. It will not have any pattern and will be either a slate grey or a black.

A local tailor has suggested that if my budget can extend to it then cloth manufactured by Loro Piana is hard to beat. I would be thankful for anyones advice on this particular brand and the different 'models' if there is such a term.

I have a keen eye on price so I wouldn't want to buy for an obsenely expensive material whereas one at say half the price is almost as good.

Information on the material make up of the suggested Loro Piana material would also be appreciated (perhaps it is 80% wool, 10% cashmere and 10% silk) for example, so if I then select another brand of material I will know that I am still getting a similar material composition but from a different brand

Kindest Regards

Beware of salesmen, they often pick the most expensive cloth without enquiring into for what his customer s intending his commission to be used for, when he is to wear it etc. Simply because something might be considered good by one person it may be entirely unsuitable for the commission.

Or they may be more into the win win scenario of business rather than the idea that someone wins and someone loses in a deal, that was a popular theory in the erm 50s.....

A reputable house will want to advise you in the best possible way and dissuade you from making bad choices. Clients don't usually come back or refer others if you fleece them, and rightly so.

That "coffee is for closers" mentality is not what the tailoring business is about, it's more about service and developing relationships than sales, because generally a client who walks into a Bespoke tailoring house has already made up his mind.

Heed to good advice, do some research on fabric, there are tons of threads on this forum.

If you're looking for a quick answer, you'll probably be flushing your hard-earned dosh down the drain.
