I have a dinner party coming up (formal but not a black tie). Already got myself a navy velvet shawl-collar blazer in a hurry as below. My intention is to wear it with white, spread collar shirt, grey pants and black oxford captoe (or burgundy captoe with minimal brogue detail) as those are already in my wardrobe. Now I'm still missing a bow tie. Should I go with black (I'm afraid it's too much) or any other color, pattern?

What do you mean by "formal but not black tie"? To most, formal is black tie. You can change the button on the blazer and wear it with dinner suit trousers and a black bow tie and you will be "semi Formal".
