Advice for 'upscale' mens wig

Evening,

I've got a friend, completely bald who wants to try wearing wigs (while on vacation, out of town) - a toupee simply isn't going to cut it as he's got no hair at all. He's 45, had a great set of curls up until 25 and I know this is important for him to try - while we BOTH understand wearing a wig is at the least - unfortunate, there has to be some upscale wigs out there that don't look... obvious?

Synthetic vs real hair?

He's got naturally black hair (East Asian), a businessman but likes to cut loose and party - and thinks the wig might help.

Many of the sites that specialize in mens wigs seem to either scam sites, promoting alt or SOS therapies, or selling low end Mardi Gras quality (think Easter grass - lol)

I thought MAYBE (just maybe) you guys could point me in the right direction without beating me up to much...

I really know nothing about wigs, but I think that for a wig to be effective, it needs to fit well.

I do remember reading an article about an old wig-maker years ago, and he used to take a fitting of the heads of his customers so that the wig would fit properly. I don't know if that is really necessary or not but speaking personally, I think that a wig is something that I'd prefer to try on before buying so as to test the fit and appearance and thus I would purchase from a bricks-and-mortar store, rather than over the internet.

I think that a wig-maker (if there are any still out there) would also be able to make or alter a wig to the style that your friend prefers (ie short hair, longer on top, mullet or whatever he likes) whereas it would probably be more difficult to get that sort of personalised "hairstyle" over the internet, too.

As a newcomer surely you could find a more appropriate place to ask this question? Indeed it is difficult to distinguish you from a troll.

If he really wants a wig - and why does he not ask the question himself (???), then find a wig maker and go there: this place has never talked of wigs mercifully as you would have found had you tried to 'search'.

Hopefully this will remain a site related to clothes and wigs will disappear quickly never to be read of again.

Although certainly not in style right now, wigs have been a part of men's clothing for hundreds and hundreds of years, so I don't think it's an entirely inappropriate place to ask the question. Regardless, there probably are better forums to ask. There have to be men's hair forums out there and I imagine that those would be the best place to ask.

The only positive suggestion yet and kudos to you Shirtmaven for helping this new member.
To add, wherever possible, buy real hair. Synthetic hair doesn't breathe. Real hair will cost a lot more than synthetic but if this is a serioius concern to your friend it will be worth the investment. A long ago aquaintance of mine had 3 in rotation. 1) fresh haircut 2) 2 weeks growth 3) 3-4 weeks growth. This simulated a natural routine of cut and grow and allowed him to rotate the wigs.

what happens if your head sweats while you are wearing your wig, does the wig cap get damp and sweaty and feel uncomf on your head, how would one deal with such a discomf, it would be like wearing a damp tshirt all day.
