Advice for building a knitwear collection

I'm slowly building a knitwear collection and so far I have a navy and a grey cashmere crewneck from Colhay's, but I'm having trouble deciding what to go for next. I find having different weights of knitwear very useful and I also find navy and grey very useful colours. For that reason I'm thinking of picking up some heavier weight lambswool crewnecks also in navy and grey from Rubato. However, it does feel like I'd be buying the same thing even though obviously I'm not. Would you guys recommend getting the same colours in knitwear in a different weight, or should I branch out to different colours or something else?

I would encourage you to branch out in color and weight. There is more versatility, and you can play with the effect. For example, a turtleneck with a lot of texture, like a cable knit or something, might go quite well with a more interesting color, like an ecru or a cream, or a burgundy, something that catches the eye more. A simple cashmere crewneck will be a basic, so I think the instinct is right to keep it at a muted or more traditional color. But you can't go wrong in any choice here.

When I built mine I went for the following.
  1. Grey sweatshirt
  2. Olive sweatshirt
  3. Chunky ribbed merino sweater in Olive
  4. Chunky cableknit in navy
  5. Lambswool crewneck in burgundy
  6. Lambswool crewneck in dark brown
  7. Light grey cashmere crewneck
  8. Charcoal cashmere crewneck
  9. Lambswool/Cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan in Navy
  10. Thin merino crewneck in mole (green brown ish..)
  11. Thin long sleeved merino polo in navy
  12. Thin merino crewneck in navy
  13. Thin merino crewneck in maroon
  14. Thin merino v-neck in navy
  15. Thin cotton crewneck in olive
  16. Chunky ribbed cotton crewneck in navy
These sweaters cover the most casual to dressed situations to wear when its warm or cold and have served me well. What I miss is something in Ecru or oatmeal and perhaps a turtleneck or cardigan.
