I don't fully understand the point of having a selvage line. Does it make the jeans more durable? I know for sure it makes the jeans a hell of a lot more expensive.

If you like to cuff your jeans having the selvage line will make it look more interesting.

you don't have to overlock stitch the edge
the edge won't unravel
you can achieve a smoother outseam with a busted seam with a selvage edge

correct.

The selvage is no more than rip stop.
The reasons they are more expensive has to do with waste and MANY other factors.

you don't need selvage for traintracks just a busted seam
in fact an overlocked edge or bound edge will give you more pronounced traintracks

Is having "a selvage" sort of like having "a dust" in your rolex?
