Adjustable desk chairs=gimmick?

So I found a very nice antique chair at the local Salvation's. It's made of solid wood, had minimal padding, and can't be adjusted. Yet, I can sit on it for hours without any pain or discomfort. And this chair had survived for at least 50 years. This leads me to wonder whether modern adjustable chairs' many levels of adjustments are in themselves gimmicky features to sell a poorly made product?

No. Personally, I couldn't sit on a wood chair for hours on end, but I am skinny.Posture is also a concern if you are sitting in it every day. A good chair makes all the difference. I also noticed a significant change in my productivity before/after getting a freedom chair. I just got an adjustable desk to go with it. It's awesome not having anything at my fee, the desk surfaces at the perfect height, a keyboard surface that tilts towads me ever so slightly, etc. Frankly, I wish I had spent the money years ago. My posture has deteriorated a little because of the amount of time I have to spend infront of a computer, and the lousy chairs I was sitting in and desks I was working at that made me have to lean forward.

You've obviously never sat on a Herman Miller Aeron chair.

The point of having a chair with an adjustable height is that it allows the same chair to service people of a variety of heights. A 5'2" person will not be comfortable in the same chair as a 6'2" person - and vice versa.

I've always wanted a freedom chair for some reason. I have an aeron chair..its nice, but wonders how it compares to the freedom chair..do you have the headrest on it? i tried out a saddle seat chair before...that was pretty cool. my favorite part of the aeron is the side bars that move back and forth...its pretty effortless seating, never fidget really once I get used to it.
