Adding leather elbow patches to sportcoats

I have some old sport coats from many years back that don't get much time in my rotation at all. I was thinking of adding some flair to them - by having suede/leather elbow patches attached.

I'm curious, has anyone had it done before? Where would I go to perform an operation such as this? (or if you have a specific example in the Toronto area, even better) And how much would it likely cost?

I don't have good rapport with a skilled tailor but I suppose that would be the first place to look...

Advice appreciated!

im sure a tailor can do it for you

I made it myself to my tweed jacket... the suede patches came pre-perfored with holes near the border to sew them... I sew them using an standard nail and rather thick thread... I had to use smooth nose pliers to help me pull the nail...

here are the results...

Homer: Look everyone, now that I'm a teacher I've sewn patches on my elbows.
Marge: Homer, that's supposed to be leather patches on a tweed jacket, not the other way around. You've ruined a perfectly good jacket!
Homer: Correction, Marge.
[He holds up a tweed jacket with two large holes in the back]
Homer: Two perfectly good jackets.

In toronto, I have used a seamstress for alterations named Stella. She has a dressmaking shop on Wilson ave. b/w Dufferin and Keele. I am sure she could sew patches with no problem. In fact, any tailor can do this. It's a simple as it gets. That said, I'm not a big fan of the look when it's clear the elbow patches are merely esthetic (as in 99% of the cases). Unless you have a corduroy coat or old ones with the elbows worn out, I wouldn't add leather patches.
