Now that I am buying nicer shirts, many of them do not have breast pockets. What do you do with your pen if you don't have a pocket?

I don't wear a jacket to work. I often find myself sticking it between my 2nd and 3rd buttons. I don't think that looks very good, though...so I'm trying to break the habit...but I don't want to lose my pen either.

Any suggestions? (preferably ones that don't involve newspaper stolen from starbucks

I have a Diabolo rollerball with platinum trim. When going to meetings around the office, I just clip it to the inside of my right pocket. I store it in a leather sheath.

What's your feeling about the constant fingerprints and buildup on the black body of the pen?

the Dupont.

Except mine is actually a fountain pen. I love the heft, but especially the satisfying "click" when closing the cap.

So... as a pen collector, I'd like to offer my 2 cents. I preface my comments that these opinions reflect my bias as a fountain pen prefect. I agree with one of the prior posts, that FP offer a panache that cannot be obtained with ballpoints or rollerballs, although between the 2 rollerballs offer better performance. 1. Montbalnc is the most over-rated pen of all time! It doesn't write very well at all. There are so many better FPs 2. My choices for fountain are Pelikan Sailor Parker/Schaeffer For many great, affordable choices you can try www.fountainpenhospital.com or for RBs and BPs try www.pensofdistinktion.com Almost any nib can be made flexible see www.nibs.com for a wonderful website that offers examples of alterations (I have no affliation at all with this website). I get all of my MTM shirts with a shirt pocket for pen carrying. Otherwise, the shirt placket, covered by a tie is a fine option. The pant pocket is OK, but I find it cumbersome. A pen case may be a viable option, but I haven't tried it personally. Penmanship and fountainpens are underappreciated tools and I applaud your efforts to use them.

A friend showed me a nice collection of Sailor fountain pens. I use only fountain pens, mostly Pelikan, but I've never owned a Sailor. Her collection has influenced me to give them a try.

I picked up a new sword today. Cross Stratford ballpoint. I love the look and the weight of it. I'm looking to test it out on many new contracts this week. BTW... I've recently started carrying my pen between my 2nd and 3rd shirt button behind my tie.

IMO, pens should be in the jacket pocket. I am not fond of the pen in the shirt pocket look. If you don't wear a jacket - put it in your briefcase.

Fountain pens and air travel are not a good mix. You can empty and refill, but it doesn't always neatly fit schedules.

On the road, I use space pens and a montblanc rollerball (it was a gift). Space pens are cheap, nearly disposable, easily fit in pants pockets and are great for writing quick notes at odd angles. Real notes on stationary get the rollerball. For home/office use, I have a Pelikan and am considering a Porsche Design for the collection.

I use a Jean Pierre LePine fountain pen for regular use. I don't take it when I fly for the reasons already given. Have used a Waterman in the past that I really liked. May try a Pelikan some time, everyone seems to like them.
