Al Gore is being interviewed on E! by Ryan Seacrest. He's sporting a peak lapel one button SB dinner suit, with a vest. The lapels are just fantastic...true "**** you" style. He said it was made by Ralph Lauren (PL?).

Any other notables so far?

Ah, missed it.

Daniel Craig, Forest Whitaker, and Will Smith were the only other standouts for me so far.

Helen Mirren looks HOT.

I saw something live from LA on Australian TV in which they seemed to suggest that all of the guys on the carpet for the big night are dressed by 'stylists'. How is it that they always manage to look like they grabbed something quickly at the local Target store?

Martin Scorcese looked good in the low gorge vest. I like Clint Eastwood's use of a red square.

Peter O'Toole is hands-down the best dressed man there. Paisley smoking jacket, self-tied bow, pocket square. So elegant.

yep, totally hot older lady...but I grew up seeing her in films when she was young and hot, so I still see that hot chick even tho she's older. Very well preserved.

Watanabe looks pretty good in his shall collar tuxedo. The matching silver toned pocket square is a no-no.

So far I would say Al Gore and Mark Whalberg and the best-dressed.

Robert Downy Jr looked awful...bottom button of his jacket buttoned, tie loosened and askew. Tom Hanks had that awful shiny black tux. Clive Owen just came onscreen looking awful-I can't believe a Brit would dress so poorly.

What was with Tom Cruise's get-up? Looked like a medium gray three-piece suit with a dark, shiny black tie. Is there a rule about a tie not being darker than the suit material, it definately looked bad to me.

I don't agree with this characterization. I don't think that the majority of the men at the Oscars look like they "grabbed something quickly at the local Target store." In fact, I think the majority of the men are rather well-dressed for the Oscars. I'm seeing a lot of single-button peak lapels, stuff like that - all classic looks.

I think sir, thou dost protest too much.

At the Oscars, I think the dress is better.
