Size up. This medium fits like a small, and I'm going to have lost $12 on shipping by the time it gets back. Sniff.

As far as I remember, french field jackets run by chest width in cm (1 inch = 2.54cm). They go 8 by 8 : 88cm, 96cm, 104cm...etc and then you have three length C like "court" (short), M like "moyen" (medium) and L like "long" (long). I can't remember where they begin or end the sizing though.

Aha! That explains it. Mine is a 96M and they misstook that for a medium.

Which sucks, because I sitll have to pay shipping back.

That does look nice; Arethusa, what size do you wear usually? Medium? I usually get medium/38R but that is definitely tempting...

There are tons of these at most MilSurp stores. I've tried on a number of different sizes, but the sleeves are always too short (except on sizes that I swim in otherwise).

They're all cotton. Unusual for military jackets. Obviously not the greatest fabric out there, but it's solid and durable, certainly. And, yeah, I do go with medium. As I noted elsewhere, I'm actually 5'10" and 130lbs, which puts me in small territory, but as I'm planning on starting a hard training regimen after I move, I wouldn't stay that way for too long. I have a 36" chest, but because I'm this way due to being skinny, my shoulders are closer to a 38. And a jacket that fits just right right now isn't going to last. Sauce, I noticed that too. The sleeves did feel slightly short. Did you ever try on a longer size?
