Stumbled onto this earlier this morning, thought some of you guys might like it.

A visit to shoe maestro, Pierre Corthay | Om Malik
"When you think of high-quality, high-end shoes for men, you think of shoes made in England or Italy, thanks in part to brands such as Alfred Sargent, Trickers, Loakes, Santoni and Bontoni. French brands don’t get that much mindshare, even though the French shoemakers hold their own against their European peers."

Nice read...thanks for this. Corthay is easily my favorite footwear brand and company. I know that one of the craftsmen is a member here. The current windows are really well done...stained orange arca with an insane patina. I'll try to snap a photo soon as I live about 15 minutes walking from the maison.

I enjoyed the visit/review, and love the shoes, but sadly, they are way out of my league.

You find these shoes ugly? I'm very curious as to what you find aesthetically pleasing. The patina on most of the shoes is sublime.

I would describe it as more like being "delicious" or "delectable".

    I like normal looking shoes

Fair enough criticism; most of the high end French shoes can be very[/I ] esoteric, which I willingly concede. Berluti and Corthay are probably two of the more polarizing examples with the bold choice of color, patina, and leather, yet the shape of both is consistently stunning. To me, the arca is still the best looking shoe available RTW.

Define normal looking shoes. Shapeless blob Alden, or chop your toes off Cleverley/G&G?

That would be Massaro, but then both John Lobbs do make lady's shoe.

I never thought I'd like green shoes, until I saw Corthays. Now I need a pair. Preferably in porosus.
