After 20 years in the Caribbean, I am freezing in New Jersey. This morning not so much, but moreso than not. I don't have a long wool coat and need one. I am unemployed and frighteningly broke, so an Isaia or Borrelli is out of the question. That being said, I can get a Calvin Klein for about $180 at Burlington Coat Factory, or a merino wool topcoat for the same price at Jos Bank. I need to keep warm and look half-assed decent. This coat, once I get a job, will move into the daily schlep around rotation. But for now it will double as a dress coat. For the money which is better?

Jos Bank at $179 (Note, this is available in full or 3/4 length)

or Calvin Klein at BCF for $180 after discount:

You can probably get the CK coat at macy's or lord and taylor right now for much cheaper with all the sales/coupons available.

If you decide to go the Jos A Bank route two things:

- Never buy from JAB unless it is on a deep discount as they have huge sales all the time
- Once it is on sale ask if they have any additional coupons. They usually do and will let you use the coupon.

Might save you another $25 - $50. I did this on Thursday with an overcoat as well. I would have loved to buy a fancier one, but this will work nicely, once i have it altered a little.

Just to bring closure, I went to Filene's Basement and found a RL -Lauren black topcoat 90 wool/10 cashmere blend. Perfectly acceptable for $149. I saw the same coat at Macy's for $350 or so. The Jos Bank coats fit like beach towels. The RL is relatively fitted through the shoulders.

I recently bought a Kenneth Cole top-coat... full retail= $425 but I got it for $140 at one of the outlets on Black Friday. Snug fit... looks better with a suit than with jeans like many people do. I do not. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to look business formal.
