A small, significant mistake. Can I remove the lining from a jacket?

I purchased a new tweed jacket recently. The fit was spot on; the details impeccable; the color and fabric superb. And it cost less than I was expecting.

Of course, after getting it back from the tailor, it turns out it's a bloody blend of 60% wool & 40% poly. I should have noticed this earlier, but now that the sleeves are tailored I can't return it. So I have a tweed poly blend jacket that's also fully lined. Ugh.

Does anyone have success in removing the lining of a jacket like this? is it a DIY job?

Have the lining replaced but not removed, expect a large cost.

Why not live with it?

You surely would need to replace the lining as the seams etc will not be finished - just search for unlined jackets and you will see how they are finished. You would thus need to have it relined or else spend a fortune on having the seams bound etc. The inside pockets would also disappear.

Just put up with it and take more care looking at what you are buying next time.

Thanks both. I think I'll just live with it, and wear the jacket more outdoors and in cooler weather.

It's tweed. It was going to wear warm anyway. It's not like the cloth will be touching your skin.

Indeed - like I said, it was inexpensive, and it does wear well. I'll look dapper this winter as people waddle around me wearing goose down parkas...
