Regarding the XJ, I'd love to pick up this one: '95 V-12

The problem there is he seems to be unwilling to learn to drive a proper automobile, and a Miata castrated with a slushbox is a sad thing indeed. JB, if you must go slushy - and I highly recommend learning to drive instead - then perhaps the previous-generation (2000ish?) Audi Cabrio might be something up your alley. If the surviving ones are not too old and decrepit, at least. Besides that, I echo previous comments about the BMW 3-series (E34) cabrio and Volvo C70. Come to think of it, the Volvo might come up tops. All of those cars are crap to drive, but at least the Volvo has a great stereo.

Short of the Solstice/Sky, there isn't a less practical car than an MR2...

-1 on Sebring. +1 on Miata Also a MK3 MR2 (aka MR-S) with the sequntial paddle shift might be right up your alley. Super fun car to drive, not too fast but quick. Or just say eff it and get a Lotus Elise. (2ZZ-GE FTW!)

Of course it doesn't compare to the Miata, but hey, I was just throwing another option out there. :p

As for the OP, learning to drive a stick is a great advice. He has plenty of time to do that, it seems.

I bought my first car, an '89 Probe, without knowing how to drive stick. It took an hour to be good enough to drive to school, a week to be good enough to drive to grandma's, and a month to say I'd never own an automatic again. Now I'm on my fourth car, and all have been manual, including the hippyish '86 Subaru 4WD wagon I needed to drive down to Delaware while I was dating a dirt science major.

Alexei, that is exactly the type of car I am looking for. I expecially like the wheels.
What is retail on one of those?

BTW I may end up learning to drive stick, we'll see how badly I do later on

The Jag will require a dedicated trust to fund the repairs.
This is what I had when I was sixteen. Mine was black.

Didn't you just turn 16? Where do you get the money for a ~$20k car?
Didn't know it was that much, that's why I asked first
