Great selection. The Hober Macclesfield-madder prints are fantastic. I covet that first tie.
You're forgiven. Sweet tie brother.
anyone have the solid reppe tie in midnight blue or the dark navy blue satin silk tie or the Macclesfield #76? would these work with a navy suit or is another color suit better?
A navy tie with a navy suit isn't my favorite combo, but it can work if there's enough contrast between the two. I posted a pic in this thread a few days ago of a dark navy suit with the navy grenadine fina. If the tie were any darker or the suit any lighter, there probably wouldn't be enough contrast, IMO.
What type of tie would you guys recommend for a navy suit then for an (more conservative industry) interview?
I am planning on wearing my black prometeus grenadine with my navy suit when I go to my interviews this winter. FWIW the employers deal with either corporate law or investment banking.
Here were a couple efforts of mine a few months back. The first is the dark navy satin with a dark grey suit and the second is a navy pindot (I don't have the Macclesfield you mentioned) with a navy suit. Pics are not the best but it can give you an idea. I think navy with navy can look quite good, just depends on the shade of navy(s).
Argh, my new grenadine has two snags already - one on the hand-rolled edges! Buggeration.
Guess i'll just have to get into it as a character of the weave.
Seems they snag pretty easily.... that the grossa with the larger weave? I wonder if the fina snags as easily..
This is the piccola which is a lot finer than my grossa ties
I know Navy blue suits vary, but here's a pic of the #76 swatch with my suit for what it's worth. Not much contrast. Here's a few other swatches (Mac 121, 123, 128 and Oxt-7) that you might consider, the iPhone camera makes them look brighter, but they look good in real life.
Today's Hober is the Macclesfield #98 (6-fold construction). Happy Monday everyone!
That one is utterly splendid
Just ordered a Macclesfield 178 & 80. Pretty fired up.
That tie is insanely awesome.
