So I'm at the point where I'd like to expand my modest Hober collection that currently consists of just a dark navy grossa and a burgandy grenadine grossa. I'm thinking of adding 3 more with my next order and am looking for opinions as to what should be included to begin to round out my Hober starter kit. It seems to me that the #3 Powder Blue & Brown Stripes on Midnight Blue Grenadine Gross is obligatory, so what else falls into the "must have" category? Thanks in advance.

Depends on what your non-Hober collection looks like since there are certain staples a man should have beyond navy and burgundy:

    - Black Tie - I have the black grenadine grossa and the black madder twill. Love them both and the madder twills are truly lovely ties.
    - Grey / Silver Tie - There's a grenadine grossa that fits the bill nicely. Otherwise, I like some of the lighter grey oxford weaves.

I'd include something from each of the above categories unless you have something workable that's a non-Hober. The striped grenadine you describe is lovely and one of my favorites. I'd also consider one of the midnight grenadine ties with pin dots. Something in the powder blue or slightly darker range is an essential in my book if you wear many white shirts. If it were me, I'd want 4-5 solids before buying my first patterned tie. YMMV.

Finally back from a happy hour that turned in to a happy 6 hours. Colors are a little off (muted pink shirt) but I'm too exhausted to mess with them at the moment (not that I'm complaining, hooray for sazeracs). At least it's not an iPhone pic this time.

Looks great. Just added this one to my order. Was planning on all solids, but dropped the midnight blue grenadine in favor of this. I also ordered my first Challis wool with standard construction. I'm getting 6-fold with the printed silks and standard with grenadines, but I was unsure of which way is best for wool. Too thick with more folds?

    Thank you nohit! [IMG]

You have made a very nice selection [IMG] but I am biased of course (seriously, you won't go wrong with either but I do like this print).

With respect to folds on the wool ties I am afraid I am not much of an authority. My first Hober challis wool in en route as I type and I went with standard construction. My guess would be that the Challis is great in 6-fold construction but I generally stick with standard construction for everything but Macclesfield prints and grenadines. Of course, YMMV.

Finally, remember to post pics!!! [IMG]

You're welcome. With only fabric available for two ties, I contemplated waiting until I placed an order before posting the link. Ha!

[IMG] Thanks, bud. Wanted to wear it with a grey suit, but since I was heading out for the evening decided to risk it with navy. I really love that tie though. I definitely prefer the 6 fold make up, but it was good to try the standard to compare.
