ok i'm completely clueless about APC. where can i get descriptions of their different cuts? (their website only list 4). also, what diesel cut is the hipster (27w) comparable to? is it slimmer than zathan?
    thanks!

hipster is a little slimmer than Zathan, lower rise, tighter ass with higher pockets, straight legs.

the descriptions of the fits have been explained here many a time on the board but are not on the website except for a couple notes about the fits on the individual pages.

ok so i did a search and i guess the new standards sound promising.
does anyone have measurements of a pair in 27w? (waist, knee, leg opening)
    thanks!

I just got a pair of 34 Rescues and they are pretty loose. if you like the semi-baggy look, then go for it.

If you dont mind could you post the actual waist measurement for those. Just the width when buttoned up and laid flat would be fine. Thanks.

Does anybody know how their jackets fit? I lot of the smalls I see have chest measurements of ~40 inches, which is a little big for my tastes. However, I'm scared that an XS would be too short in the sleeves for me at 5' 11".

    Thoughts?

Did anyone ever figure out if the washed NS are sized the same as the unwashed?

I went to Selfridges and Liberty in London yesterday hoping to try on a pair of New Standards in raw denim but neither had any (though Liberty had a load of Rescues) and when I asked the sales assistants when they were likely to be back in stock, I was told around 3 weeks [IMG]. I would rather not wait that long, so I'm planning to buy off the APC site but need some advice on sizing. I'm a 32" waist, therefore going off what I've read here, I should get either a 30" or 31" due to stretching? I've got quite muscular thighs so I really don't want a skin tight fit but am after a more fitted/slim fit look.

Help would be greatly appreciated from those in the know.

I would go with the 30s (especially from this latest batch), if you want the waist to fit, and are not going for an antifit look. I'm not sure what you mean by muscular thighs (mine are muscular but not really thick), but unless you have body builder thighs (say 23"+) the fit should be slim rather than skin tight. In any case, the denim of APC jeans is infamously stretchy, and they will stretch out if there is any tension applied at all.

I would call Mauro at Denimbar (in Arlington, VA, USA). His prices are better than on the APC website by a fair margin.

^ do you mean the latest batch runs a bit larger or smaller? on the azleasf website it says a pair of 32 NS measures 35.5... that's already 3 sizes up pre-stretch!

actually i'm a 32 also but i wear 29 in NS and hipster (which are the same i guess).

Thanks for the reply, LA. Initially I was thinking of getting the 30s but then I got worried that I wouldn't be able to do up the button [IMG]. Do they really stretch by 2+ inches?

I have seen Denimbar mentioned on the forum before but as I live in the UK, customs tax would apply, whereas from the APC Europe site, no tax would apply due to the jeans being distributed from France, an EU country, like Britain. With shipping from the US thrown in, I do believe it would work out practically the same (maybe ever so slightly cheaper).

Just got some new standards and can't wait to get them hemmed. Should I do this right away or after the first wash? (I can't really see myself wearing 4" cuffs for 6 months.) If I hem them now, should it be a little longer than normal in anticipation of shrinkage?

I have a pair of levi's and a pair of guess jeans, both 30's, that fit perfectly around the waist. I decided to measure my waste myself as well as measure the width of the jeans and found that the true size of my waist and these jeans is around 33. So when I size down, should I size down from my true size (33) or the claimed size of the jeans (30) ?

I'm confused as to what "true size" is. I wear a 32 in Earnest Sewns PDC and Diesels but they're all a tad too loose on me. But, when I take a tape measurerer around where my waist is, I get a little under 35.... Which do I go with if I want a pretty slim fit?

Right, bit of an update...finally managed to try on some New Standards in a 30 and 32 waist. Nearly had a hernia trying to get the 30s on and couldn't do up any of the buttons despite struggling with them for about 10 minutes [IMG], also they were much (much) too tight around the thighs, for me anyway. As for the 32s, the sat perfectly on my hips without a belt, the waist was comfortable and when I pulled the denim at the waist there was about a 1cm of space; I also really liked the fit at the thigh and lower leg, unfortunately they didn't have a 31 just to make sure it was the perfect fit.

Do you guys think I should get the 32s? I didn't buy them on the spot, as I got a bit worried having read here that they'll stretch a lot at the waist that they'll end up falling off my ass [IMG] but if no tension is applied to denim at the waist (as the 32s fit perfect), surely it won't stretch?

As a side note, I tried on a pair of Rescues in size 30 and they were still massive (I reckon I could've fitted in 29s quite comfortably) despite me being a 32, so I'd really urge those considering buying a pair to size down three times, like LAGuy suggested.

ok so which cuts are absolute straight leg (no tapering at all at the hem) or slight bootleg? from those which ones have medium rise and semi-slim(slimmer than regular but not skin tight)?
    please enlighten me.

I was wondering something about APC. In the future, I'm thinking about getting a pair of NS. I know that there's an APC store in NY and I'll probably wind up going there to get them. My question is if I wear a 29 in most jeans, should I size down to a 28 or just get my normal waist.

Even though the thread is 10 pages long, it is worth a read, as I found it quite informative.

New Standards are medium rise with a tapered leg (fitted lower leg), whilst Rescues (called Straight on the APC website) are full rise, straight leg jeans. I think Cure is medium rise, skinny leg but perhaps someone could confirm that.

To get the fit you're after, look at the first post of the thread, where LA Guy covers sizing.
