I'm sure you've searched the archives and heard everything everyone has to say about boots, including how RM Williams are awesome, how pre-distressed boots are frowned upon, and the questionable quality of those brands, so I have only one thing to add: don't wear them every day, they need to rest!

If you want something comfortable in a Chelsea style for cheap, Blundstones might be worth checking out. I just bought a pair this week, and already walked at least 15 km in them - extremely comfortable (probably the comfiest footware I own), and probably can be had for under $150 in the US. The leather is very tough, and they are made in Australia.

I would have thought with the $US depreciating against the $AU, you guys would be paying a lot more than that. Good price

I'm a size 10 to 10.5 usually. I'm 9.5 in Chucks, and take a 9 comfortably in the Blundstones. I could have sized down to an 8.5, but I needed the extra room for thick socks. With thin dress socks, I use the extra set of insoles and the fit is perfect.

Wait. Confusing. 9US or 9AU? Is it basically AU + 1 = US, like most UK sizes?

I think you're correct. My box says 9. Unfortunately, since I don't have the box with me right now, I'm assuming it's 9AU, so 10US.
