I'm hoping to get your advice. I need a new navy Sport Coat and Spier & Mackay has been my go-to brand. However, they're sold out of everything! Hopsacks, Marlin Evans high twist, ... and no timeline for the Fall 24 line. Crazy.

Here's the criteria:

Similar quality to S&P
OTR, hopsack or all-season weight
1/4 lined, 3-roll-2 button closure
under $600 (max)
To wear with trousers and chinos
*I'm a 40R

Any suggestions on a substitute? I'm getting desperate.

Where do you live? I think you could get something nice done up MTM in that price range.

I did so in NYC in this Reda wool and the result was great. They have good sporty cloth available at attractive price points.

I’m going between TX and a small town in VA and I agree on MTM. I just don’t have the time or location to do it right now.

I’ve also been watching for something on eBay. No luck.

Only one size left, though.

Thank you for your suggestion! I looked at this jacket before posting, but didn't know much about the brand. Your suggestion gives me more confidence to go back and take another look.

I will second Proper Cloth. Just took delivery of the Reda sportcoat in Hopsack and am really happy with it--I'm going to send it back to them for a complimentary remake because the sleeves are like .5" too short but otherwise I think it's a great option at that price point and has some customizable pieces (lining, pockets, etc.) too.

Couldn’t you just MTO with Spier and Mackay?

Practically speaking how is that process? I already find buying OTR items from them a bit dreadful with slow client service. When I've done MTM in person the communication and client service of the tailor and ability to iterate and have some alterations included dramatically influences the experience. It seems S&M has moved most of their great cloths over to MTO.

no idea, but if your size is easy then I thought MTO is just simple order process

At the time I began looking, I don't believe S&P had a MTO hopsack or all season option. However, I'm a college student, play a fall sport, and the whole process is more than I want to take on right now.

I did email S&P customer service asking when the Fall24 sport coats would be released and was told they are not provided with a timeline for any of their product releases. For me, this eliminated S&P as an option.
