A handy knot for laces that like to come undone

I have several boots and shoes with non-waxy laces that come undone easily.

I hate a double knot because it's not as quick to remove.

So, I came up with a solution that works well for me, and my friends have started to use it as well.

Simply use a standard shoe knot that we all learned as yound lads, but go around the loop twice instead of once. This way, it's much more secure, yet it will still come apart with a pull of the lace.

I thought I had invented this, but found it mentioned on the interwebs already. Oh well.

I also invented the fist bump. I do regret it.

A very effective knot, thanks for explaining it so well.

I first learnt this at junior school where laced shoes were the uniform. After leaving there, i wore only slip on styles for a decade. I felt so grown up...

Another tweak worth a go is to begin the knot with 2 'bends' instead of the usual single bend before forming the loop.

My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

Sorry, but I just had a look and the fist bump has also been mentioned on the interwebs. So unless you are Stan Musial (in which case

) who was apparently doing it long ago, you didn't invent that either.

I'll try the knot tying idea though.

+1. So did I.

In terms of knots not coming undone, I find a little spit on the laces before tying helps a good deal!
