Hi

I have done a search, but only found this: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=72606

Which does not definitively answer the question, maybe that's because there isn't an answer?

I've had a look on their website, UK, and there does not seem to be definitive lines that guranatee a certain grade of leather. I'm aiming to get the softest and best quality of leather, and not bookbinder.

Custom Grade, that I thought was calf, non-corrected, only - does not even seem to be listed anymore.

So - my question - what should you look out for to ensure that you are buying good quality and not bookbinder Chruch shoes.

Many thanks,
Ross

At Herringshoes it's correctly listed, not sure what site you're looking at.
Also look for full leather lining and leather soles.

Thanks. I was looking at Church's website. A bit (or should I say very) shameful that a reseller lists them better than their own website.

Handgrade means nothing, they all say it these days. You want to look for the leathers that specify "calf". The polished binder is the high shine corrected grain, which you are referring to. I wouldn't doubt that the polished binder is the same at the regualr calf, but just sanded and treated, but at any rate go with calf, not polished binder.

Many thanks.

In relation to what you've said - this shoes is availble same price in polished and calf: http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/produc...colour_id=2136

You would therefore think no difference in leather, if no difference in price.

Quality is the same.

My work shoes are Church's, in calfskin and polished binder (the shoes have been worn the same amount of times, give or take 2/3 wearings) and although I prefer calfskin, would not disregard their polished binder.

For rainy days, I also have a pair of Church's in polished binder and I prefer them in polished binder because they are easier to clean and polish.
