A great shirt that matches nothing I own...

Green would work too. Great idea. Problem is, this shirt seems barely committed to being brown.

I could see green working. The reason the shirt doesn't seem so brown is that it's a white and brown alternating herringbone. I'm not sure how well that comes through in the photos.

If those are your only jackets, it won't work. A solid Navy or Grey would be ok though.

+1 on a grenadine dark green tie. Goes with pretty much anything including black.

I've got a green velour jacket bought long ago when I was fatter, and it was much too big back then. Could give a perspective on the color though. These day's it's unwearable and probably not even worth the alterations (Too big in the shoulders. It was basically the first jacket I ever bought.) EDIT: Now with picture

That's a clue, IMO. The physical styling (cloth, collar) is that of a more formal shirt, but the color says casual.

You were on a better track with the jacket with the red overcheck, although the match still isn't right. The grey pinstriped combo looks...not good.

On a tie color, I agree with the red/green faction above.

Wow...How rare is it that you can get two "Eric"isms in one thread and it was done totally innocent.

"Brown is for Farmer."

"Only blue shirts? Are you a stewardess?"

SF Oldtimers...Rejoice.

Happy Holidays All.

Don't beat yourself up either way. Ive bought a shirt that looked good/a little different before without thinking "what am I going to wear this with"? Ive done the same thing with a tie before too.

Dark green might work but either way it will still be a distcint outfit you won't be able to wear regularly.

+1 on getting a navy suit or blazer. Brown and navy often go together/contrast well. Plus navy is such a staple color.

Your brown shirt in the pictures seems to have some sort of sheen to it, can I ask who is the maker and what is the material? The texture/sheen of the shirt may also have something to do with whether it matches well with other wardrobe items.

Wear blue shirts. Pretty much always.

This is sound advice. Would clarify, though: Wear light blue shirts. Pretty much always.

I propose you start wearing more tweed and finely tailored flannel suits and the like to exert our last remaining (sartorial) imperialism over the Orientals. It's the only thing we've got left, so rejoice.
