A few questions about weekend bags

I'm considering buying my younger brother a nice weekend/carryon bag for his college graduation gift. I've read through the threads on here and found a few good options, but I still have some questions. Right now the Orvis Montana Weekender is my top option and an example of the aesthetic I'll probably go for.

It is $250, which is right at the top of what I'm able to spend, so I'm curious to know if there are any alternatives at around that price point or slightly cheaper.

In other threads similar to this, I've heard that Chapman bags are even nicer than their similar, Orvis counterparts. I would really like to actually see the bag though before I buy it. Is there any place in the US that actually has carries Chapman bags? I'll be in NYC this week, so I could make a trip to any place that has them there.

Alternatively, is there any place in the city that I might be likely to find similar luggage (I'm also considering a similar briefcase as an alternative). I read here that the first floor of Barney's has a lot of bags, but from the later comments I surmise that most of them might be above my price point. True?

Thanks!
