A couple of (very specific) Levi's Capital E questions

Yes, I know there are Levi's-specific threads, but I have a few specific questions and don't want them to get buried.

I saw these:

http://www.barneys.com/501%20-%20Dee...efault,pd.html

and thought I might like them. I've never liked Capital E stuff in the past because the denim seemed too thin and soft. So my questions:

Will the quality of these be on par with other Levi's 501s, or am I much better off with the originals?

Has anyone seen the denim? Is it any thicker than other Cap E stuff?

What effect does the resin coating have?

Will the fit mirror the rest of the newer 501 models?

On principle, is paying almost $170 for a pair of dark Levi's insane?

For anyone who has seen the jeans in person, can they be used for more upscale occasions, or better left for weekending?

I've owned a pair of Cap Es before and they fit amazingly but got torn up in 3 months. I imagine these 501s will not be much better.

My recommendation is to go with some APC new standards (or rescue, depending on your build) and for $20 less you'll get much nicer denim. However, the original 501 STFs are classic, will probably fade better, and will save you much more than $20 over the Capital Es.

the stitching looks too much like a $40 pair of Levi's for me to justify spending four times that.

pickup some new 501 stf's with the new branding, making sure they're the '47 cut or just go with apc's new standards.

No real interest in the New Standards, they look too much like the Helmut Langs I already have. Are there any of the original 501s that are dark/raw like that but are not STF? Too much work/guessing for me...

If money is no object, why not just get some LVC 1947?
