I was called "zombie" for a while back in the day because I played a zombie in a B horror film.

A number of my friends really do call me "Sauce", shortened from "Saucemaster". My old college roommates and I were watching Delicatessen, and at some point someone on screen was referred to as "Saucemaster" (according to the subtitles), and for whatever reason, probably having to do with alcohol, it stuck.
Oh, I thought maybe you were a chef.

PS- 'the guy' is a horrible, trying to be cool (but not) nickname- especially if you're giving it to yourself. Sorry.

Yeah, pull that stunt and you'll be called "The guy...who-gives-himself-a-nickname" Let it happen, and the name you'll get will mean something.

    Hey guys-

thanks for your personal stories and suggestions about nick names. Since we don't know how the Dude received his I don't think its so wrong for me to make my own- maybe he did this also [IMG]

Sometimes you can't wait for others to make your own dream come true..[IMG] i've just learned this recently.

I think i'll send an email to all my friends requesting to only call me the Guy from now [IMG] ..but you can still call me Danny [IMG]

The Dude was a very "go with the flow" type guy. I doubt he had the ambition to create the name for himself, nor did he posses the arrogance to demand that everyone call him "The Dude." I can see an A-type, Ivy Leaguer, doing this though.

    Hey Brasky,

Maybe you don't know the Dude so well [IMG] because he told Jeffrey Lebowski to call him the Dude many times..

I like to go with the flow also and even made a topic about it here [IMG]

You do realize that The Dude is actually a character in a film and not a real person, right?

Well the Dude might just be a character from a film but the Guy isn't [IMG]

...mr. the-guy-who-names-himself, I will just comment that while I admire your willingness and gumption to make your own dream come true, I also would say that if being called 'the guy' is your big dream, I suspect you've got bigger thing(s) in store for you and should aim higher with your dream(s).

Mine have all come from sports team participation and spread from there:

Bones - from football, still sticks, I have always been really skinny
White Shadow (later deteriorated into "Whitey") - HS basketball team nickname
Dirt - from college basketball team, as in "older than", at 23, I was three to five years older than everyone else.
Also was called Hose by a big circle of non-athlete friends in college - from a loud, complimentary reference my drunken ex-girlfriend made at a party. [IMG]

Of all these, I obviously wish that "Hose" had stayed.[IMG]

A teammate of mine, incidentally, had what I thought to be the coolest nickname - "The Colonel". It was an A-Team reference, his last name was "Decker".

An A-team nickname. I pity the fool.

Actually, he *is* a real person: the movie was the Coen brothers' homage to him.

Glad to hear there are more dreams in the pipeline.

As for gumption, that is NOT a reference to Forrest...
