A coat for spring

Well, it's getting to that awkward temperature where it's usually too warm to wear my peacoat, but not warm enough to go around without a coat on (at least where I live.) So it's time I got myself a spring coat, I've been thinking about this for a while and just hadn't seen anything decent around and really haven't a clue where to start looking due to the complete lack of anywhere decent to shop in my town. Anyways, I'm just looking for ideas, so, feel free to post up any lightweight coats you like. I'm looking for something slightly military inspired I suppose, and nothing too short, I'm not a huge fan of the overly cropped stuff. I'm also not looking for anything double breasted, I want to be able to easily wear it open, and of course, slim fit only.

I saw a coat I didn't mind the style of at urban outfitters, (sue me, my town basically has 3 clothing stores) which was SIMILAR to this one:

http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban...REL&prepushId=

But it's WAY too heavy for what I'm looking for, you can tell when you look at the arms that it's padded like crazy. I don't have an H&M in town, but I'd imagine they might have something in the price range I'm looking at (~$100, or less, although could go a little more if it's worthwhile) and I can probably get to one sometime within the next few weeks.

Thanks for the help and hopefully we can get some decent spring coat ideas out there, even though people in the more southernly places probably don't need one!

My recommendation is buy something cheap cotton military jacket to get you through, then save up to buy a nicely designed leather bomber with an updated fit. Made of decent heft (not aero thick, or paper thin lamskin). Should last you years.

I'm with you, I've only been wearing my peacoat for a few weeks and it's practically too warm to wear it already.

Yeah brutal, eh? I got mine in mid-Jan. and I'm already trying to shelve it.

Good choices for spring: lightweight cotton trench coat or a Barracuta-type jacket.

Buy my engineered garments bedford. Its perfect for what you describe, a little pricier but well worth it.

If you like the military styling, you could check out Spiewak. I've tried this coat on and it is quite light and slim.

I recently ordered a Warrior Harrington from someone in B&S, but it hasn't arrived yet.

Corpus' gabardine bomber jacket is chilling in deep discount on quite a few sites, namely Revolve. I've never handled it in person, but my guess is it has that middling warmth you want.

I would find a nice, slim, lightweight windbreaker, harringtons are getting too much play for my taste but something a bit more modern is just as functional and versatile. If not, lightweight trench or car coat works real well, I have a Theory raincoat from last spring that has a detachable lining, with that piece taken out it's the prefect weight for what you're talking about.

You could always just get a thin cotton military jacket or bomber. You could probably even do one of those rumpled blazers, although if you don't want to do the cropped look that might be tough.

American Apparel makes a nice fitting nylon windbreaker. I got one last fall and wore it all the time. Almost time to break it out again. It isn't anything great in terms of quality, but the price is right.

When its too warm for a peacoat I usually wear my harrington jacket (barracuta is a popular brand here but mine is polo ralph lauren)

I like the look of Harringtons... on other people though, not really my style. The Spiewak looks a little awkward. Despite the shameless plug, nairb, that is actually pretty close to what I'm looking for but 20" pit-to-pit seems a bit large... I'm looking for maybe more an 19" pit-to-pit. We'll see. Interested in seeing what you're coming out with MJK.
