That article basically says what I've been thinking for ages - British manufacturers should focus on high-end goods. We will never be able to compete with other countries when it comes to mass production, so we should stay away from it and focus on what we do best.
Seems to be the approach Jaguar has taken with the current generation of the XJ. It's high on luxury appointments, but low on state-of-the-art tech and gadgets. Its sales have been very good, and the restyle may have saved the brand.
