My buddy set me up on a blind date for this week and i was wondering what you guys think I should wear. I was thinking jeans, some well shined shoes, a white button down, and a sportcoat. What do you think?

Obviously, if your date is blind, the answer is "anything you want". [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] Hey, someone had to say it... Seriously, give us a venue...picnic by the fishin' hole, or opening night at the opera?

We are going for a drink or 2. We are both 25 and live in the metro Detroit area.

I like the sportcoat and jeans idea. However, if by "well-shined shoes" you mean dressy cap-toes or wingtips, I would ditch that idea and go with some chelsea boots or something similar.

I would also probably go with a shirt with some color or pattern to it rather than a plain white button down.

I agree with bryce and like his idea, as long as you aren't going to a sports bar, etc., that may be too casual for a sports coat.

Not to hijack your thread, but bryce who is that in your avatar?

Yeah, but where? Sports bar, dive, dance club, swanky hotel? You could need anything from brass knuckles to a conspicuously unbuttoned sateen shirt to the full "American Jackass" regalia... You know, come to think of it, your proposed starting point (nice jeans and a sports jacket) sounds pretty solid, a priori. Just don't wear naff, clunky business shoes. If you had the foresight to buy any of Lance's Certo monks, or something similar, I'd break 'em out now. How "blind" is this date? 'Cause if it were me, I'd probably want to call her up and get a very rough idea of what she's wearing, just to avoid the "Patagonia vs. pocket square" debacle...I think most women would appreciate the consideration.

It sucks when you know the exact time you'll be making a first impression, and therefore have to plan it. It's why I take spontaneous meetings over planned.

Don't look too metrosexual. Don't wear anything that'll make her say "Ooh, I like the shirt/pants/jacket/whatever." She'll most likely have just noticed that part of you first, because the clothing was so noisy. Instead, try to wear something that'll make her say "Ooh, I like the shoes/belt/watch/hat/whatever." Accessories are where the personality lies.

Anyways, that's probably a bunch of hogwash, but just try to look more like a hardass than a pretty boy. You'll have all the time in the world to impress her with your sartorial knowledge once you start taking her to fancier places. For now, all she probably wants from you is to not be a creep/loser/pedaphile/communist/whatever.

And that's my psychoanalytical analysis of someone of whom all I know about is the word 'girl'.

So, on that note, I'll suggest boots of some kind (especially since it's cold), preferably sh*tkickers like cycle boots. Jeans sound like a good idea. Wear a jacket that can be transplanted to her if she gets cold walking back to the car (and she's drunk enough to accept your coat), which means something w/a plush lining. Inferably(word?), wear something warm enough that you won't freeze your arse off w/o a jacket.

Sorry this post is so long. I'm stuck at school and all my cats have gone home for the holidayz. All I've got tonight is this forum and the most delicious sixer of Old Style 16 ouncers I've ever tasted.

If I'm not mistaken, isnt Bryce's avatar Smoove-B from www.theonion.com? His column is hilarious.

think about what image you want to convey, too. she will remember what you were wearing this first date, as long as you too will be together (could be one date could be the rest of your life). if you want to look solid and safe, that is one thing, if you want to look wild and crazy that is another.

    1. Wear something that goes with the weather.
    2. Wear something clean and neat.
    3. I would not fear wearing nice suit/sports coat on jean.
    4. Nice brown cap toe dress shoes really go well with washed boot cut jeans.
    5. Every woman love guys who are stylish. Most woman want their man who are slightly above their league.
    6. As much as what to wear is important, hairstyle is very important too.

Enjoy. I hope she is a knockout.

But where will you guys go? That's pretty important to know if you want good tips about your outfit.
