Interesting WSJ article--
"Mr. Kasikci believes in maintaining a careful line between servers and those who are served. He dresses impeccably in Zegna suits. He wears only Hermès ties -- maintaining a collection of 500 of them, each worn five to six times before being "retired" to a cabinet with electronically controlled tie racks in his closet. He orders his monogrammed shirts custom from a Hong Kong tailor. And in deference to his sense of social order, he orders from the same tailor for Mr. Rivera, the valet, "but in a lesser fabric, of course.""

Christina Binkley...what is she trying to fool people into thinking she is Christie Brinkley?

I'm pretty sure the maitre d' is "thinking" and not "taking."

$200 at Escada will get you a tshirt and $1000 at Van Cleef might get you a new band for your watch.

Now we know what Ricky is always doing when he's not making our orders!!! No wonder!

Also, what a prick..."a lesser fabric," my left nut.

In his place in the pecking order, though, Mr. Weinstein enjoys the privilege of carelessness. At lunch recently, the Hollywood hotshot could be seen talking with his mouth full, and he had his elbows on the table. Nevertheless, "we love him," Mr. Kasikci said.

Oh, Mr. Kasikci is a generous and forgiving man! Honestly, this is one of the snottiest things I've read in years...not because hotels et al treat big spenders better (that's life), but just because of how his tone comes across. And if he really has 500 Hermes ties, he probably has no sense of taste, as there have to be a number of ooglies in the mix. Please.

Also, notice there is an enormous amount of big-name-dropping, but almost no mention of style. Figure.

I read that article this AM in the WSJ too. My thoughts were about the same; Typical self-important, pompous, arrogant Angeleno working in the service industry that wears his label on the outside.

Makes me think of David Spade bit on SNL; "and you are........"

this is a classic example of someone associating with the wealthy fooling himself into thinking he is one of them.

sad

I hate places like this that suck up to celebrities and the apparently wealthy. I will never stay in this pompous asshole's hotel.

This, following the travesty generated by the Bear Stearns kid, should prove to all by now that nobody in their right mind would agree to be the subject of an article like this. How could anyone the subject of an article like this not come off as a pompous asshole. Granted, he certainly makes coming to that conclusion easy. But anyone whose practices of spending lots of money on things normal people consider frivolous are made the subject of an article is going to come off as an asshole. (Damn that was a convoluted sentence.)

I have a friend, a Julliard grad, whose full time job is organzing the electronic music library of a billionaire. He has - I kid you not - 4 terrabytes of music. And he employs my friend full time to manage it. He's a nice guy, albeit a bit eccentirc. But write an article about that and he's going to come to your average Joe as a bit of a douchebag.

How is managing a digital music library a full time job? Do you know what format the music is in? If it's mp3 then that is a huge amount of music.

Evidently, when the music was ripped from CDs into mp3s, whoever did it didn't label things properly. There's a lot of classical music, and the files, for instance, don't have the performers listed, or alternatively don't have the composers listed. That sort of thing. So the job involves going through and adding all the missing information.

It would probably be cheaper and faster to re-rip the disks correctly and then have your friend fix stuff freeDB/CDDB didn't recognize.
