$900 to spend on shoes, how should I do it?

Current rotation:

Allen Edmonds Park Avenue (Black)
Allen Edmonds Byron (Black)
Alden Burgundy Captoe
C & J Monkstrap (Black)
Vass Old English (Antique Cognac)

These seem to be my options all of which are right around the 900 mark:

1) Fill in some clear gaps by getting a brown and black blutcher, perhaps from plal or during the T & A sale in December.

2) Pick up a pair of Edward Greens next time they go on sale at RL, perhaps a brown wingtip.

3) Bite the bullet and order my dream boot from Vass (oxblood wingtip high boot on the U last with double sole)

4) Something else I haven't thought of.

What should I do? Thanks!

How about anything brown...I own one pair of black boots and about 30 or so of brown and tan.

While everything on your list is great, the Vass boot seems to be what you REALLY want. Get that. You will still long for the boots even if you get all the others.

what size shoe? Buy my almost new C&J handgrade Savile monks in chestnut.....

I also have a NIB pair of Martegani cap toe bals in black...THE starter for any shoe collection.

Other than that, I would also agree on more browns, less black.

I'd go with getting your dream boot. It may be awhile before you get this close again to getting it. I'm assuming all of the other shoes on your list are more affordable than the Vass.

I would go for the dream boot. Have you checked Vass' prices due recently? They may have gone down.

The Vass prices are much better than they were a year ago given the strong dollar. In fact anything in GBP is as well. For 900 you can get also EG MTO.

If I were you, I'd place your Vass order now given the strong dollar. I'd also use the leftovers to grab a pair of C&Js from Plal. Obviously something in brown. I'd go for the Saville Monk in dark brown or mink suede.

I suggest you try Ralph Lauren at their next sale...which should be around the corner

At their May 15 sale, I picked up a pair of EG Montgomery wing tip full brogue monk straps...at $617 dollars, including shoe trees...and am very happy with my purchase.

Should be able to pick up two pairs of C&J handgrades with that amount.

+1, get some derbys (blutchers) in the chestnut - brown color range.
