There seems to be an argument between which length inseam is better looking. I personally think the longer shorts look too California pop/punk. What does everyone else think?

I am an old skate rat... so you will rarely find me in shorts above my knee.

But I assume that's what you mean about the california/punk thing.

You can take the boy out of the skatepark...

My go-to shorts are Polo Andrew shorts which have a 6" inseam. I prefer it shorter, and will generally have longer shorts hemmed to around that length. I'm not that tall, but I just cant stand shorts around the knees.

Depends on your leg type/height/age/style. No one can say anything is better than anything else because it's a personal preference. I prefer just over the knee but that is personal, anything too short and they look funny on me.

I prefer 11". I have both but haven't worn my 9" in at least two seasons.

The 7" J Crew shorts are my favorite. It's nice that they give you the option though (5", 7", 9", and I think 11").

As you get older, your pores tend to dilate and your body increases its dissipation of heat through parts of the body with larger surface areas, such as the thigh. Hence, older people naturally and biologically find it more comfortable to wear shorter shorts.

Under 30: knee length or below the knee
30-40: just above the knee
40 or older: mid-thigh
