I purchased this pair of Plain Toe Derbies (PTD) about 1 year ago and have infrequently worn them as they are about 1/2 size too small for me. My wife has finally motivated me to part with them. They are in superb shape other than a scratch on the back of either heel (see pictures). No doubt caused by my bad habit of putting my feet up at the office. Both scratches are very minor and not noticeable to anyone who is not within inches of the shoes. The shoes have always been cared for with saphir premium shoe products.
(I took the following text from Ron's website, riderbootshop.com, which is an excellent description of the boots' construction)
These shoes are of a true 'Treccia' stitched, Norvegese construction, handsewn in the Goodyear method, plain toe derbies available here in black calfskin. Treccia is often referred to in the States as 'Norvegese', but this would be, technically, incorrect.

'Treccia' refers to the triple, intertwined, heavy linen thread that you see along the base of the upper, and that is handstitched thru the upper into a feather (ridge) cut into the underside of the insole. 'Norvegese' refers to the upper being pulled out (as opposed to under)away from the last where another stitch connects the upper to a full leather midsole, which is stitched thru to the outsole. As you can tell, a very complicated, labor intensive and extremely durable construction.
The chisel-toed last used in this shoe highlights both the work and the finishing, and fits true-to-size.
