The golden period that I consider classic rock (before I was born), and I've been trying to get into more bands lately.

I've always liked the usual suspects like Led Zeppelin, The Stones, Black Sabbath, The Who, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper etc.

So I've been checking out other bands -- perhaps less well recognised today as those mentioned above -- and really like what I'm hearing (e.g. Grand Funk Railroad, Mountain, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Wishbone Ash, Free).

Now I'm hungry for some more.... any suggestions along the lines of my more recent discoveries?

I recently acquired the LP version of Rick Wakeman's Journey to the Center of the Earth, recorded at the Royal Festival Hal in London with a full orchestra. It really is a phenomenal album. There's no "single" so it's no surprise that it didn't get much radio play, but it is sublime nonetheless.

This is a fascinating thread, and full of lots of useful information. Further, on reading it, I believe I have a much better handle on the elements of successful internet argumentation techniques. Thank you for sharing this link.

Some might place them in the 60's, but Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band are well worth your time. Others you might consider:

Bad Company
Badfinger

Brian Eno's pre-ambient albums, and all Eno-era Roxy Music
+1 to Badfinger

Ha ha, yes, I read that thread, and found a couple of newer (i.e. more recent) bands in Hey Man's list on Page 3 that I really liked which I'd never heard of before.

But before that thread descended into a slanging match, I didn't get much from it.

Maybe kinda why I mentioned some specific new bands in my OP that I've gotten into recently, and wanted some more of the same.
