In various different threads and posts some Toronto based members mentioned that Trend Custom Tailors were now offering bespoke shoes so I decided to investigate a little further. Below is the reply I got from Don Lee.

We do make bespoke shoes, our Cordwainer trained for four years in Italy before returning to Canada. his name is Peter Feeney . We do order custom lasts which are produced in England and they are based upon your own feet which are measured by mr. Feeney. You do have direct consultation time with mr. Feeney with regards to the design which is a very important part of your process and it continues throughout the commissioning of your shoes. You have choices of leathers from all over the world and the design is only limited to your imagination. The patterns are then made and kept for you towards further pairs. Our prices vary upon details and material used but generally speaking it starts at $600.00 Cdn.

The price includes the last which is made in England with Springline being one of their suppliers.

The only 'review' of them I can find online is here.

Has any styleforum members tried them yet?

The price seems more than reasonable.

I've been a client of Don's for a few years and I hope to commission a pair of shoes from Mr. Freeney next summer.

I've spoken with Peter briefly but mostly I trust Don to offer a quality and superior product, likely at a price that is below market value.

Don's tailoring operation is top notch, and I know that he wouldn't allow a product to be associated with Trend that he didn't believe was top notch also.

Wow. Are you sure that the 600 includes the making of a bespoke last? Do you get to keep the last after?

You should order a pair, ask Feeney to take lots of pictures as he makes your shoes, then post the pics here. :)

It's what I asked Jon Gray to do.

I'm wondering about this as well. Having Springline make the last can't be cheap. If a Springline last plus the shoes cost only $600, there's no reason to buy RTW any more.

Please post a review if/when you do.

That's about 25% the cost of typical bespoke...

I know right? He did say it generally starts at $600 Cdn though. Perhaps they have different grades of calf skin that increases the price as you go up the line in quality?

Don confirmed that the price does include the last. I don't think you get to keep the last. Typically bespoke tailors/cordwainers won't allow this.

Actually, I committed to Jon Gray as well so my bespoke shoe budget has already been spoken for this year. :)

Last I knew - Spring Line's bespoke lasts were about £200... about $325 at current exchange and about 320CDN.

It's possible that there could be an upcharge for using Spring Line. I suppose I could find out but I felt guilty about using up any more of their time as I had no intention in the near future to avail myself of their services.
