So I went Marshalls today to pick up a new belt and wallet and what do I find? a pair of Levi's 501xx's STF in just the right size for some sweet cuffing (33x38) for $20. Unfortunately they have a small tear at the bottom which is probably why they are so cheap, but that will be covered up by the cuff.

Anyway, I was wondering how much these shrink, because they fit alright when I tried them on but I'd like them to be a bit slimmer.

Also, Do these fade well?

and finally, how should I shrink these? do I wear them for a bit them wash them? wear them in the tub? rinse them?

Thanks in advance.

Soak them in hot water for an hour or two

They'll shrink about an inch in the waist and 2 inches in the inseam

How about the overall fit, do they get slimmer?

If your Levi 501 STF's fit you prior to washing them, and you presently sing Bass, take a hot shower while wearing them and, when they have dried, you will be singing Tenor! STF's shrink quite a lot.

STF's shrink at least 2 inches both ways from what I've seen. So obviously they are going to be a bit tighter than they currently are.

They stretch a considerable amount though, so Ive found sizing true in the waist regular in the inseam works well, or for an equally good fit, like everyone else said, size up 1 in the waist and 2 in the inseam for hot shrinkage.

my 501's have stretched quite a bit

I'd size down one (not including shrink)

So I stopped at the Times Square Levis store and picked up some STFs in a 33; 1 inch bigger than my normal waist.

When I tried them on when I got home, I realized that the waist is HUGE on these. I know they're supposed to shrink to fit you (hence the clever name), but how big should they be on your waist before you soak them? Should the be like an inch too much or almost like 3 inches too much?

I only ask because I don't want to soak these things and then be out $50 because they didn't shrink enough.

Thanks for any help.

Do folks just not read the sizing info tag that comes with every single pair of STFs? The folks at Levi's aren't just making that **** up.

But did they fit well before you soaked them?
