Hello,

I have the unfortunate problem of being a 40L. Is it just my poor searching or is this size impossible to find on sale at places like STP?

Any other 40L's out there who feel my pain?

i'm more of a 38L, but I get by with a 40R

pretty close to the same problem. 40R has too large of a waist (with a standard 6 in drop. that is standard, right?). the jackets are ok if they aren't cut roomily to begin with

What brands even make stuff in 38L?

I'm largely in the same boat. 40L often works, with some brands I have to go down to 38-39, but I also have sportcoat in 41R that fits pretty well.

Also, what's so bad about Melbourne, Australia?

Technically, I am a 38XXL but 40L tends to do with a few alterations. Who the hell makes stuff in that size? I'm almost thinking of 'bulking up' in order to fit into a 42L. One tends to find WAY more 42Ls online!

Oh, and Melbourne...for a classical pianist is quite a back water. Also, finding nice shoes here is impossible!!!

I feel for a 38xl (which I've never seen), but 38S isn't happening very often.

In fact, I've never seen any S jackets on STP regardless of size.

Another 40L here. Definitely hard to find. You'll usually find only a handful of that size in a store's selection.

Believe me, I feel your pain. I wear anything from 38L to 40L, depending on the maker. A Euro 50L (US 39L) seems to fit me best. I've had great success finding suits at Saks Off Fifth, but I can't find anything on ebay, nor can I find sportscoats, which I wear much more often than suits. I've also become somewhat picky about the silhouette, since I'm rather thin, meaning that HSM, Hickey Freeman, Dunhill, Belvest, Brooks, etc. just does not look good on me. My solution is expensive: I have jackets made by WW Chan, a tailor in La Jolla, and occasionally Oxxford or Samuelsohn MTM. Oh, to be a 42R.

I've had good luck finding 50L (aka 39/40L) Isaia suits on STP.

You can also go bespoke, which I highly recommend.

Yes, my problem with the Isaia suits on STP is my 36" inseam. They list the suit trousers as 36", unfinished, leaving me exactly 0" for hemming.

Yes I know that some are avid Ebayers and some won't buy a thing from Ebay.

But it's an alternative.

Here's a 38L Oxxford suit for $66.00 from a known seller parisvegas:

It's too late for this suit, but if you set up a search, there will be others.

Damn, how tall are you? I am 6' 3.5" and I've got no problem with the length of Isaia 50L.

Anyone need a 36XXL? (2 for that matter)

I had the unfortunate experience of ordering two 46XXL for a customer but forgot to convert it to Italian sizing when ordering (56XXL), and ended up with a 36XXL.

Otherwise I do carry 34S and 36S. Sorry Rolo... no 38S.

I am a 40L with not enough experience to have found the size difficult to find. Can someone explain why this size might be as rare as is being suggested here?
