There's a 40% off sale at Banana Republic Canada sweaters from 11-2pm. I'm thinking of passing up on the deal; not enough savings for their inflated price + I don't think their fit will look good on my 6"5' frame.

I'm still waiting till the first Jcrew shop opens in Toronto for tall apparel. Is this a good choice?

Thanks!

The B&M stores don't carry tall items. You have to order them.

Thanks! Not the best quality stuff, but at a deep discount like this, it'll do.

BR sweaters are totally worthless. They lose their shape after about ten wears. I recommend staying away.

Any other recommendations for 100% wool sweaters at $36?

I have some BR sweaters and I like them fine, whether they are a good deal depends on price etc. Mine have held shape reasonably well.

However, I'm 6'3" and I'm at the limit for height with them, imho. I show slight cuff while wearing them, I don't mind, but at 6'5" I'd guess non-tall would be no good for you.

BR Canada/Gap etc. do not carry tall sizes, even online, because they are marsupialed. Seriously, they can't have them in one warehouse they ship from?

I read "ten years" at first glance. I found myself wondering what sweaters made you happy...

Pickings are VERY slim for size medium. Found a couple of good pieces, though. Thanks for the PSA!

If anyone in canada or otherwise needs a tall size from online, I would be happy to proxy for them.

Canadians can order from the US site if they choose. My issue is that there isn't much in the way of Medium Tall.

I dont think Jcrew would necessarily be a major step up from Banana Republic. Remember you get what you pay for - if you pay $30 for a sweater, you dont need to complain if the quality is on the low side.

Banana Republic stuff should be 50% cheaper always, but then the same is true for just about any label out there. Is a Polo RL shirt from Macy's worth $80 - not a chance in hell.

The thing is, it's a total false deal. $36 for a BR sweater but you can get a John Smedley sweater on the deal market (eBay, SF B&S, Gilt, etc) for anywhere between $75 - 100, and the quality is much, much better. The sweater won't get all droopy after 10-15 wears, the collar retains its shape, and the cuffs don't stretch out. It's just a much, much better deal. Gilt is having a sale on John Smedley tomorrow, in fact.

We tell people on this board not to buy Kenneth Coles and Mens Warehouse suits for the same reason. Why so many people have such ill advice for sweaters really confuses me.

Oh, and MTM sweaters made out of Jamieson Scottish wools for $100.
