how good is the quality of their shirts compared to say the H&M slim fit shirts? (nice ones)

the h&m ones are $50 and the BR ones are about $80(-40%)

what do you guys think?

Neither of those are especially good options for dress shirts. BR shirts use the crappiest fabrics imo, cheap buttons too. You're in Toronto so go to the Harry Rosen shirt and tie sale at FCP (now until Sat I think). You can get some pvt label Rosen shirts for < $100. They're not that slim fitting but bring them to get tapered to a tailor and you'll have much better shirts than BR or H&M.

Almost all of their shirts go on sale so it'll be cheaper then 40% off eventually.

Their merino sweaters are ok for layering and worth it for $36.

They have some cotton blazers that go well with jeans for casual wear.

I've found BR shirts to be very wide in the chest. I'm a slim guy, so I avoid them

Actually, I avoid the whole store, except for things like socks and belts, as mentioned by another poster. BR is definitely the worst of the "mall" stores. J. Crew is much better.

+1 on J.Crew. But BR cashmere/silk vnecks are nice sometimes for a weekend. Only at final markdown, of course.

All dress shirts come sized in collar x sleeve lengths (and they don't just have odd - or even - sleeve lengths).

Keep in mind that those coupons are only good for full-priced items. 40% off full-priced BR is not a good bargain. The whole store is on final sale like every other month. I still have more BR in my wardrobe than I'd like (or like to admit here) but the deals are often tempting. Then I buy the stuff, hate the fit, and wonder why I keep subjecting myself to BR. But that's another story... In any case, I would still never buy anything from there unless it's already marked down significantly. Like distort-your-better-judgment type markdowns. I do live in Orange County though, where there's a mall every 5 miles. So there's always opportunity and plenty of available sale inventory for me to do the whole buy-return-buy-return dance wihtout much effort. Throw in other occassional coupons, F&F sales, my wife gets an additional 10% off on Tuesdays + free basic alterations, etc... and 40% off full-priced is not that impressive. My personal policy is to never keep any item from BR that's over $30. Even those cashmere/silk in basic colors sweaters get down that low.

The Monogram line is fine (a tad pricey at retail), but if you want to use your coupon that's an option.
