Stoooked. I don't care if its inaccurate. I want to go see a bunch of blood and action. This movie is not about history.

    Mizanation -

I too, will perform those acts, as all men should before being allowed to witness the greatness of 300.

IMAX will be friggin' awesome. Our local theatre sucks; I need to get to an IMAX facility myself. There is going to be so much testosterone stinking up theatres this weekend.

might be good to take a road trip to an imax capable area. nothing like imax to magnify the subtleties of gory violence.

Wow!! He [Mark Twight] is in this. I had no idea he had gone into acting.

    Nope.

He trained the cast. Whipped them into shape so they would look like Spartan warriors instead of soft Hollywood actors. Google "Mark Twight" 300 and you'll find some interesting articles and videos about it.

Thanks. I was always in awe of Twight. More so now. He's having an interesting second act and good for him.

Funnily enough that was used quite a bit by the Byzantine navy. Talk of being ahead of the times.

I am not sure if it's a legend but I read that Archimedes designed mirrors that were used by Karthagen to ignite Roman ships that were attacking the ports.

I haven't read 300, but everything I've heard form Miller fans tends to indicate that all the crazy, stupid shit in the movie is the result of unrelenting faithfulness to the comic. Naked Spartans, Lord of the Rings war rhinos, flaming arrows, arrowheads designed by four year olds, bizarre lesbian Persians, bad dialogue, the whole thing.

    "This is madness."
    "Madness? This is Sparta!"

That's some Michael Bay writing right there. I don't think it requires familiarity with history to hate this stuff.

skal, I'll definitely check it out.

    Ditto.
I wish this movie was made in black and white and SILENT.

I think it is both - yes I am a grumpy git [IMG]

For example, I hated Last Samurai partially because I had done some research on Takamori Saigo, the inspiration behind Katsumoto. I was also struck by how jingoistically nice they placed Tom Cruise there to teach the dumb Japanese what their traditions meant to them. Especially considering that the Emperor was on the side of the common people by abolishing the ruling samurai class. Plus Saigo had changed sides more than once.

There is also the problem, of historical revisionism. Big film studios can in essence change the past in to their versions. Sort of like Disney changing the morals and meaning behind,m say, The Little Mermaid. The Andersen original was a lot darker and placed the mermaid's demise squarely on her head, not on the "evil witch". How many people, especially children, will know anything abiout the original other than what Disney prescribes?
    Ok, now I am rambling.

P.s. a while back did look at a few pages of the original comic on the Spartans/Plateans at Thermopyles, looked interesting.

P.s. 2 Nowadays, I just hope that filmmakers stay away from my area of the world for inspiration in general [IMG]

Why don't you rent original "300 Spartans". I remember seeing it when I was 5 years old with my mom. I liked it then[IMG]
This new movie stole some lines from the original which always tells me that it's gonna be a dumbed down re-tell.
