3-piece suit, yay or nay?

Hello ladies and gents, I'm a newbie to this forum here. This summer I'm going to attend 2 weddings for my cousins and I still have not decided whether or not to wear a 3-piece suit. It's gonna be a light grey 3-piece. I plan to wear it with either a blue shirt or pink shirt and brown shoes. Not sure about pocket square/tie bar yet since I might have to wear a flower-lapel thing because I'm a relative. Question is, should I leave the waistcoat at home or rock it to the events?

Welcome to SF. A 3 piece suit can be extremely elegant but keep in mind the weather during the summer. If the wedding is indoors and climate controlled, you will probably be fine. If it's an outdoor wedding, I'd look closely at the weather forecast. Also keep in mind your propensity to sweat or get warm in clothing during the summer. If you don't get too warm or sweat easily, the vest is fine. People will notice profuse sweating before you get any bonus points for wearing the three piece suit.

Oh, and that shade of shoes is fine for a summer wedding (I prefer black in the evening but that's just me), but the shoes themselves are hideous. Standard oxfords would be much better (I realize you were posting them to show the shade but want to be sure).

It's gonna be indoor/AC and will be held in California this June, the shade is for reference only (I agree the shoes are not my taste.) I've been in Miami for so long, so I do not know much about weather in the West Coast during summer. I bet it's better than Miami, heat-wise

What are you guys' opinion about plaid shirt and grey suit? Sorry for asking so many questions

Define plaid. There are all sorts of lovely check patterns that go fine with a suit, but if you're thinking of one of those super loud plaids, then absolutely not. I prefer more subtle patterns, though I could see something like these work:

Why would you want to wear plaid at a wedding. It's meant for casual events or the mall. Stick with a suit.

First time attending wedding, so I'm clueless about that. Of course, I am going to wear a suit.

I wouldn't try to directly match it to anything. It's far better to find something that is complimentary to your outfit. It's really tough to summarize what you should look for in a non-white square (there's a decent chance it will not be a pure solid which makes this harder), but this thread is actually pretty good if you have a bit of time. Definitely better than anything I've come up with.
