I was looking at a picture of a 3 piece white flannel suit from a Japanese website and I was surprised by how exquisite the bespoke garnments were...

I also remember a great charcoal 3 piece double-breasted flannel suit from Style forum which was another great example of how a 3 piece suit could be done...

Are 3 pice suits outdated or are they part of a dream wardrobe?
If yes ,do you think they look better in flannel or tweed or in pure worsted wool?

They are the dream. They look good in all cloths. Why would anyone want to bespeak a suit without a matching waistcoat?

They're fine if you're old enough to wear them, but really they are not feasible for the very young, i.e. early 20s. For someone that young, they come close to costume, unfortunately, but once you're old enough, order nothing else!

Classic, heading towards the outdated, but clearly due for a trendy comeback or two before they get there.

I'm considering getting a solid charcoal 3-piece, so I can wear it without a waistcoat in interview situations.

I think the answer is all three. They look trendy on timberlake, outdated on anyone from Washington and classic if done right and worn well by everyone

Three piece suits are none of those things - they remain a staple for everyone. Not everyone liked the - their choice and one which does not affect status.

I love how this thread pays no attention to the surging popularity of waistcoats in modern fashion.

+1. They are classic if they are done/worn well. Lately, I have noticed a lot of designers are doing their suits with the vest, the next "trend" perhaps.

Shut up. They're classic inside the Beltway too.

The most recent Paul Stuart catalog has a photo of a young man (blond, perhaps late 20s) in a 3-piece suit. I think it looks a bit odd, though perhaps because the model looks like he'd just jumped from a casual Martha's Vineyard J.Crew photo shoot into the downtown Manhattan Paul Stuart suit.
