I have a really great summerweight blazer I picked up at Neimans from Zegna...very well crafted. As far as the normal clothes go, I've no idea.

Yes. Their stuff are overpriced for the quality because of its brand strength. Silhouettes are boring. The casual stuff is nice but very overpriced. It's a triumph of marketing.

The "Couture" line is very nice, however.

I wudnt compare them 2 boss. The quality is far better. Both n terms of cloth and construction. I hav 3 zegna suits. 2 hav been altered 2 give more shape. I have seen the zegna in hk. Was there last month. Cant say i liked anything but the couture line. But even that was boring. Although that hk tends 2 b a bit conservative in dress. Most shops stock black and dark brown shoes.

Personally, I think Kiton is much more coercive in their marketing.

They have made themselves as the go-to Italian firm for aspiring millionaires and habitual classy-types.

Loro Piana in terms of the brand, or interms of their fabrics?

It depends on how it is bought. Remember that the store orders from Zegna what the store wants to sell. And since Zegna is often a mainstay line, it tends to be bought in a very conservative, even boring way. With the right buyer it can shine.

A Harris, this is the point I was trying to make, except it was hard writing the post from my cellphone. I thought that the HK store was catering for an older and conservative crowd.

All very true, the HK buyers really frustrates me. The off the rack stuff you'll most likely to find here is either conservative to the point of irrelevant, or outrageous to the point of unwearable. Well, I guess there is always Tokyo a short flight away.

Zegna has terminated their VIP program this year where a 20% discount was given on all regular priced items anytime. Business must be good, which means there won't be much change in terms of selection here.

They're both too commercial. But both make a few nice things.

I don't see enough Baldesarrini/Selection to know what Boss is good at. But Zegna has some really wonderful fabrics which they should given their heritage. But I never see them all together except at Zegna's own Fifth Avenue flagship store.

I think Zegna has a greater percentage of quality tailored clothing. But I bet Boss has a much higher sales volume.

I remember seeing a few years ago some $50 Zegna t-shirts with ZEGNA emblazoned in huge letters across the front - that's when they jumped the shark for me.

I think they were better 5-10 years ago. I have a few suits from the mid 90s that are still in great shape. Conversely, I unfortunatley purchased a Z-Zegna on Bluefly a few years ago. A complete piece of garbage. Not worth more than $200.
